Our in-house jazz guru Jeff has a great Music Monday pick this morning – Chick Corea‘s amazing avant-garde rendition of My One and Only Love. This social advocate was one of the primary musicians involved in the jazz fushion movement as part of Miles Davis’ band during the 1960s. If you want to see the master live, you’re in luck. He’s playing at Roosevelt University on April 5, 2014 with Bela Fleck – tickets go on sale December 6th HERE. Enjoy!

If you’re a person who just can’t decide whether you like classical or bluegrass music more, you definitely need to check out the Goat Rodeo Sessions led by famous cellist Yo-Yo Ma and three amazing string players Edgar Meyer, Chris Thile, and Stuart Duncan. This genre-bending group combines classical, bluegrass, and even jazz influences to create a unique and inspiring style. The Goat Rodeo Sessions album was released in 2011, and won two Grammy awards in February of this year. But what is a goat rodeo you ask? It’s a complex and even hectic event where every moment needs to go exactly right in order for things to work. If you listen to the recording below, you can hear where the inspiration for the title comes from. Enjoy!

You can never go wrong with a good Regina Spektor song! We’re taking our own advice today and listening to “Folding Chair” from her 2009 album Far. If you head to the beach after work this week or during the weekend make sure you include this nautical-themed tune on your beach playlist. Or if you’re planning a netflix marathon night, listen for Regina’s newest song “You’ve Got Time” in the new series Orange is the New Black. Enjoy!

If you’re not familiar with The Temper Trap‘s latest album, you’re missing out! Their captivating lyrics are accompanied by complex instrumental tracks, and lead singer Dougy Mandagi has the voice of an angel. The Temper Trap’s self-titled album, released last year, really shows the band’s maturation since their 2009 release Conditions. You might already recognize their hit “Sweet Disposition” from that album – check out a sweet live recording in this Youtube video. In the meantime, we hope you love the video below of “Trembling Hands.” Enjoy!

Our company president Jeff Stitely recently saw Rush play in Chicago for their Clockwork Angels 2013 Tour. The band has been winning the hearts of air-guitarists and air-drummers alike since the release of their self-titled debut album in 1974. Nearly 40 years later, the band has earned admission to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and is still very active in tours, interviews, and other award nominations such as the Prog Rock Awards Band of the Year. Below the band performs one of their most iconic songs, Tom Sawyer. Enjoy!

This morning we’re listening to one of our favorite newer bands to break into mainstream radio, Imagine Dragons. This band, along with Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, and others have helped alternative rock gain momentum in mainstream media during the last several years. This song, “On Top of the World,” from their latest album Night Visions is a ton of fun. Enjoy!

We’re taking a little detour from our usual Music Monday selections with a comedic song about a crew of fairweather Hawks fans. With Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals coming up tonight, there’s no better time to jump on the bandwagon if you haven’t already been following the Blackhawks’ amazing season. Listen to Chelsea Dagger by The Fratellis on your ride home from work to get yourself amped up, then watch the game tonight at 7pm on NBC!

Peggy’s pick has us rockin’ out to Red Hot Chili Peppers for Music Monday! This video features the Peppers playing a cover of Stevie Wonder’s Higher Ground from a 1990 David Letterman Show. Want to know what the band’s been up to lately? Well, on July 23rd they’re releasing three final sets of I’m With You vinyl sides, they have a few shows in August, and today is the last day to bid on autographed RHCP gear through the Grammy Foundation!

Enjoy!

No we’re not talking about the Russian president. The band, who named themselves Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin to get a few laughs out of their friends, is originally from Springfield Missouri. Thanks to their name, they were recently invited to play at the Old New Rock Festival in Yekaterinburg, Russia, near the hometown of the former president. We found this witty lil’ music video for their song “Think I Wanna Die.” Enjoy!

Female pop-rocker Ellie Goulding has a softer side, and we like it! This British artist recently released her second full album Halcyon, after her first single “Lights” spent over a year on the Billboard Hot 100 list. You can find acoustic performances for many of her songs through a quick Youtube search, including the video below of Goulding performing “Starry Eyed.” Enjoy!
