This week’s Music Monday entry highlights Johnny Hartman and John Coltrane’s touching rendition of “My One and Only Love”. Check it out!
This song hits me right in the heart on so many levels. It was the song that all the jazz musicians down in Champaign log from as one of the great albums with Johnny Hartman and John Coltrane. Coltrane is my all-time favorite saxophone player. Just his tone alone hits you deep and his rendition of this melody is sublime. This song written by Guy B. Wood & Robert Mellin has one of the most beautiful melodies ever and the lyrics are a beautiful expression of love, admiration and longing. The poetry in these lyrics is something that songs these days just don’t have.
“The very thought of you makes my heart sing, like an April breeze on the wings of spring. And you appear in all your splendor, my one and only love.”
This was the song my wife and I chose as our first dance at our wedding. I hope you enjoy it.
