This week’s Music Monday entry will showcase the work of American jazz and R&B trumpeter and vocalist Donald Byrd with his track “Women Of the World”. Check it out!
I was first turned on to Byrd in college. At the time I was working on a music recording project for a class and was tasked with producing a five track EP of instrumental music featuring trumpet. My professor suggested I listen to some Donald Byrd for reference and inspiration. I began wading through his catalogue and landed on his 1973 album “Street Lady”. I was hooked after that, especially when I listened to the closing track “Women Of The World”. This piece is wonderfully laid-back and sits in a soothing, carefree groove. The tasty licks from Byrd and flutist Roger Glen are accompanied this time with smooth vocals that speak of reminiscence and hard-fought accomplishment. “Women Of The World” is a beautiful track that brings a smile to my face every time I listen. Hope you enjoy it!
